“Jewels of Northern Tanzania”

Classic Northern Tanzania Safari
14-day Private Safari

Tanzania is a gigantic country blessed with enough “must see” places to occupy a lifetime. Truly, it is a land of superlatives–the highest mountain in Africa, the largest intact caldera in the world, the largest terrestrial wildlife migration, the second deepest lake in the world, to name only a few! Put simply, the diversity of the landscape and wildlife, the visual beauty and the hospitality of the Tanzanian people makes Tanzania the ideal destination for both first and repeat safaris.

All itineraries are customized to your particular interests and needs as well as the season of travel and length of time available.

Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania

Morning/evening arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). After going through immigration, customs, and the obtaining of your visa, you will be met in the luggage area by our representative. Time permitting, enjoy an afternoon tour of Arusha town, the bustling safari capital of Tanzania.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Leisurely morning to rest after your flight and enjoy the beautiful grounds of your lodge or take our Arusha town highlights tour. After breakfast you will depart for Tarangire National Park and your first afternoon in the bush! Tarangire is known for giant baobab trees scattered throughout the landscape giving it an other-worldly feel.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Full day to explore Tarangire.
Silale Swamp area is where I have seen more elephants in one group than anywhere in Africa! Tarangire National Park offers you a wonderful opportunity to observe elephant behavior in general. The Tarangire River is the main feature of the park and always draws wildlife to drink. Your guide will advise the best options given the conditions at the time.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park

Another full day to explore Taragire.
Your guide will advise the best options given the conditions at the time. Your camp or lodge is beautifully situated to enjoy the bush from camp so by all means stay back at camp all or part of the day and see what comes to you!

Day 5: Karatu Region

Options include a morning at leisure or early departure with breakfast for the drive to the park gate. Your destination today will be a beautiful agricultural region. The scenic drive is one of my favorites in your itinerary. Karatu is one of Tanzania’s most productive agricultural areas where coffee, rice, and maize are important crops. On the way, you will pass through the lively village of Mto Wa Mbu where the best bananas in the area can be found. Seriously, the bananas here are delicious! Shortly after passing this village, the road starts ascending as you near the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. You will have a chance to appreciate a view of this awesome geological feature as well as one of the famous soda lakes, Lake Manyara.

Arrive for lunch and relaxing afternoon with plenty of activity options.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

Early morning departure with a packed breakfast for the floor of Ngorongoro Crater. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the descent road from the farm. Picnic lunch and full day in one of the most beautiful and photogenic places on earth. Your lodge is positioned right on the Crater rim and affords you not only a spectacular view of the Crater but also efficient access to and from the Ngorongoro Crater floor access road. You will return to the hotel later this afternoon and have a private walk with our favorite local naturalist who will surely impress you with his knowledge of this incredible region’s history flora and fauna.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park

Early morning descent to the Crater floor with picnic breakfast and lunch. Today, you will be one of the first cars down into the Crater. The morning is a magical time in this magnificent natural wonder and the best opportunity to see lions active within the pride-an unforgettable experience.

Afternoon departure for Serengeti National Park. This is an epic road trip! Length of drive is quite variable depending on your wishes but generally this is an all-day drive. Whatever the plan, this is another exciting drive with an incredible landscape transition and intimate exposure to the world of the Massai people…a day you will never forget!

Day 8 and 9: Central/East Serengeti

Two full days to explore the vast central region of Serengeti and each day can be planned according to animal movements and your wishes. Depending on the time of your safari, the migration may have moved but there are lots of resident wildlife that permanently reside in this central region of the park.

Surrounding areas of Seronera, Moru Kopjes, Namiri Plains, Nabi, Gol Mountains and Simba Kopjes are all accessible from this location and your guide will advise you of the current conditions. It will be your choice of which adventure to explore each day. Moru Kopjes is my absolute favorite part of the park and I definitely suggest a visit to this specular landscape.

Day 10: Northern Serengeti

The precise schedule of your day can be determined on location, but you will be traveling north. This day is a full day scenic drive. Part of the drive will detour out of the park where you pass small villages that border Serengeti National Park and get their lifeblood from it. The lovely farms in this area supply most of the food for the northern camps and lodges and many of the workers in the park come from these villages.

Late afternoon arrival at your camp with enough daylight to enjoy the spectacular scenery of this region and a beautiful sunset.

Day 11 and 12: Northern Serengeti

A leisurely morning is one of your choices today. Your private guide will recommend many other options. You are positioned to explore many interesting areas adjacent to this location. The Mara River is very close and this is the place where the famous wildebeest crossings occur and if you are very lucky, you may just be in time for a front row seat! On a personal note, I have seen the most incredible things in the north. Your guide is very familiar with the area and will advise you of the various options you have the flexibility to enjoy.

Day 13: Departure Day

Last glorious morning in Tanzania! After breakfast, you will be driven to nearby Kogatende Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport for your homebound flight or one of the many wonderful extensions we offer.
